Everything You Need to Know About the Week of Service

For those of you that are unaware, this week is Fairfield University’s annual Dolan School of Business (DSB) Week of Service. The week of service was created to bring students and faculty members together, give back to our local Fairfield community, and to raise awareness and funds for an amazing cause. See the below event details and who to contact if you want to get involved!

All Week Letters to Wounded Warriors – DSB Dean’s Suite Lobby

All week in the DSB Dean’s Suite there will be the opportunity for students and faculty to compose and send letters to wounded warriors thanking them for their service and contribution to our society. If you have questions regarding this event, feel free to contact Stephen Dierks ’18.

Monday, March 27, 2017 Bake Sale – 12:00pm to 4:00 pm, DSB Classroom Lobby

Stop by the bake sale to pick up a snack on your way to or from class! All proceeds for this event will benefit the Charter Oak Challenge Foundation, Inc. which is an organization that supports disadvantaged children and families in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

United Congregational Church Food Pantry Move – 3:00pm to 5:30pm, United Congregational Church, (877 Park Avenue, Bridgeport)

The United Congregational Church needs movers to help them relocate to their new location.

“Careers for Common Good” Working in Non-Profit Panel – 5:00pm to 5:55pm, DSB room 110B

Gain insight on working for a non-profit company from Dr. Charlie MacCormack (former CEO of Save the Children), Zachary Gross ’12 (Senior Program Manager,

Simply Smiles), and alumni Geraldine Watson (Vice President for finance and operations at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund). The panel will be monitored by the professor of DSB’s “Managing Nonprofit Organizations” course, Dr. Cathy Giapponi.

First Annual Lip Sync Battle – 9:00pm to 11:00pm, Alumni Hall

This year, DSB will be sponsoring a Lip Sync battle between students and faculty. All proceeds raised from this event will be going towards Hole in the Wall Gang, a summer camp for children with cancer and other serious illnesses.

United Congregational Church Food Pantry – 3:30pm to 6:30 pm, United Congregational Church, (877 Park Avenue, Bridgeport)

The United Congregational Church will be collecting donations to provide food and other necessities for those in need. If you are interested in donating or volunteering, please contact Kelsey Washbum ’17.

Wakeman Boys & Girls Club – 3:30pm to 6:30pm – Wakeman Boys & Girls Club

Eight to ten students are needed to help plan and assist after-school program students in their activities at the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club.  To get involved in this fun volunteer opportunity, contact Matt Ragone ’18, Sabrina Adipietro ’18 and Caitlin Ferrarese ’18.

Women in Business Night – 6:00pm to 8:00pm – DSB Dining Room

Please join Play Like a Girl, Fairfield and the Dolan School of Business at their Women in Business Night, an event that intends to bring recognition and assistance to female business undergraduates here at Fairfield. Several faculty members, alumni, and successful business spokespeople in the local area will be speaking on topics including majors, internships, career paths, and how to get to where you want to be in the business sector. Sign-up is required on Orgsync, but if you have any quick questions please feel free to contact Victoria Asmus ’18 or Professor Katsiaryna Bardos.

United Congregational Church “Feel the Warmth” Community Supper – 4:00pm to 7pm, United Congregational Church, (877 Park Avenue, Bridgeport)

The United Congregational Church needs 10 volunteers to serve pizza and salad at their “Feel the Warmth” Community Supper.

Operation Hope Meal Preparation – 1:30pm to 3:30pm, Alumni Hall

Come out to Faber Hall to prepare a meal for individuals in Fairfield county who are lacking food or shelter during this time. Five students are needed, to volunteer or get involved, please contact Kathi Mettler or Brianna Tancredi ’17.

Read-Aloud – Fairfield Learning Center – 10:00am to 11:00am – Early Learning Center

Get the opportunity to revisit your favorite childhood books and experiences by reading to the children at the Early Learning Center on campus. Three students are needed, to learn more information please contact Nadia Marynovych or Anthony Crasto ’18.

PLAG 5K for Childhood Cancer – 10:00am to 2:00pm, Fairfield University Campus

Join the girls of Play Like a Girl, Fairfield and the greater Fairfield community in participating in a 5k around campus to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer. Students and community members can sign up here on Eventbrite, and all proceeds will be going to Hole in the Wall Game Camp.
