Life as a McVinney Resident

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Providence chapter.

Hey incoming Collegettes!

This fall will kick off the first year of college for the class of 2021 and there’s nothing better than getting to decorate your dorm room but first you’ve gotta pick a dorm to live in! I lived in McVinney this past year and it was an amazing experience. It’s right in the center of campus and is doubles only. If you’re thinking that McVin might be the dorm for you but aren’t sure yet, here are some facts and suggestions about life there to help persuade you:

The Room

    – The rooms are small but reasonable for a double, plus it lets you really get to know your roommate

    – Loft your bed as high as you can for extra space, storage under the bed is key since the closest are on the smaller side. There are lots of different ways to arrange the room to make it spacious.

    – One thing to note is that the higher up your floor is the hotter it gets so bring a fan!

The Bathroom

-Public bathrooms are what they are but as long as you work as a floor to keep it clean and take care of your own messes, it’s manageable. That especially means WASH YOUR DISHES.

The Roommates

-I did not have the best experience with rooming this past year, but I know many people have had a great first year and some things that I have learned from them are to be respectful of each other and the space. The most important thing is to realize you do not have to be best friends with your roommate you just have to get along.

The People and RA

-The people on my floor are some of my favorite people on this campus! We are a tight knit group and I know that not every floor will have this, but if you’re lucky you will.

-There is a chance that half of your floor will be in your orientation group and they will be you ride or dies.

   – Do things with the girls on your floor when you can! Invite people to lunch or suggest floor events like bachelor watch parties, secret santa, surprise birthday etc.

    – I got lucky to have an awesome RA that is supportive. The RA’s are always there to help you, even if you’ve only seen her at floor meetings or when your both in the bathroom at 3 am

   – Don’t be afraid to go to her with even the smallest problem thats why she’s there and you also don’t have to just refer to your RA, if you don’t mesh well you can always go to another floor or your Hall Director.

There is no going wrong with any of the dorm choices freshman year but if I had to pick all over again, there’s no where I’d rather be than McVinney.
