Big Little Lies Series Finale Recap

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

The breakout mini-series starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley had its finale last night, and it did not disappoint.

I doubted that the cast and crew would able to wrap up the entire series with only one hour, but I was mistaken.

Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) finds out that Celeste (Nicole Kidman), his wife who he has abused, bought a separate apartment in order to leave him and take their children.

We also find out that the class bully is Max, one of Celeste’s sons, and that the boy learned the aggressive behavior from his father Perry.

Perry then attempts to confront Celeste about leaving him at the school charity event where she is speaking with Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Renata (Laura Dern), and Jane (Shailene Woodley), with Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) looking on from a distance.

Jane, who we found out was raped by an unknown man that is her son’s father, recognizes Perry as the man who raped her. Perry rushes at Celeste, pushing her to the ground and kicking her. Madeline, Renata, and Jane struggle to get Perry off of Celeste. Bonnie sees the fight break out and rushes down from her vantage point, and she shoves Perry down nearby stairs to his death.

The women all agree to tell the police that Perry fell while abusing Celeste, protecting Bonnie from the consequences. The series closes with all the women and their children playing on the beach.

The mini-series ended on a very satisfying note. The “Who Done It?” mystery has been taken to the next level with a dynamic, star-studded cast, beautifully done cinematography, and a killer (I really didn’t mean to make a pun here) storyline. Unsurprisingly, HBO has done it again.
