Q&A

HC: How did you become involved with MUF&D?

M: I actually knew about the program prior to coming to Miami, as one of my family friends who also went here was in the club. It was for sure a deciding factor for me in attending Miami because I knew there was an already established fashion club/fashion outlet that I could be apart of, which other universities lacked. I joined my freshman year and have been a member of the event planning committee ever since.

HC: What is your favorite thing about fashion?

M: Fashion is so fascinating to me because it can encapsulate a certain period in time and informs you on why people wore what they wore–for example what political, economic, or social issues of the time led them to sport a particular style of clothing. I like history so that stuff is kind of fascinating to me, but also (and more simply), fashion is fun! It allows you to express yourself, your interests, your influences in a way which the world gets to see. It’s basically a way of telling everyone who you are without saying a single word, which is pretty cool.

HC: If you could model any designer, who would you model for?

M: I’m pretty sure I’m hanging up my heels when it comes to my modeling career (as I did the show just for fun), but hypothetically if I were to model for any designer I would have to say Burberry. Their spring/summer 2013 collection was actually what made me want to be apart of the fashion industry. I remember sitting at home and live-streaming the show on my laptop. Just seeing the way that the clothing, music, and inspiration for the collection all worked perfectly in sync was something so overwhelming and exciting to me. The theatrics of it all really opened my eyes to the fact that fashion was something I needed to be apart of and made me realize that it’s something in which I will always have a deep interest.

HC: What went through your head as you were walking down the runway?

M: DON’T FALL! Low key, maybe high key this is what I was worried about most before I walked out on the runway, but once I hit that stage everything kind of went black. I do remember thinking though to just have fun. A lot of times people take themselves way too seriously, and while I agree there’s a time and place for seriousness, I knew I wanted to just go out there and have a great time…so that’s what I did!

HC: What was your favorite part about the fashion show?

M: One of my favorite parts was actually watching the designers and members of MUFD exec throughout the entire show. To see the looks of accomplishment from the designers when their pieces walked down the runway or to see the excitement on the faces of the amazing exec board of MUFD as the show was going on was so rewarding. It was great to see that all of the hard work that these people had put in for the whole year had finally paid off in the best way.

HC: Do you have a favorite famous model? Why is she your favorite?

M: I really like Camille Rowe. I admire her go-with-the-flow mentality and love how her style incorporates trendy pieces of today with dope vintage finds of the past.
