HC Recommendations: Go-To Songs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

We all have that one song for every occasion. About to put on makeup? Play that song. When the pregame beings, play that song. We all have a bop for every type of occasion, and the women of Her Campus want to offer our help for those of you in need of a hype song. We will be recommending gym pump up songs and songs to play when you’re about to go out. Brace yourselves for some serious jamming out tunes.

Meg Oslund would recommend: “Over and Over” by Small Pools

“I usually play this song when I’m getting ready for the day or on my way to class because it gets me in a crazy happy mood.”

Katie Sall would recommend: “Goldie” by A$AP Rocky

“I listen to Goldie by A$AP Rocky almost every time I go to the gym because he just gets me goin’.”

Carris Veronica would recommend: “Come on Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners

“Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners is a song essential for a night out or just your daily pick me up. Especially the part of the song when it says, “too-ra-loo-ra-too-ra-loo-rye-aye!” And who doesn’t love a good 80’s jam?”

Josaphine Lakin would recommend: “Bad and Boujee” by Migos

“Going to sound a bit basic here, but I need to go with the obvious choice and say “Bad and Boujee” by Migos. I listen to it when I’m going to/at the gym or getting ready to go out!”

Alexandra Flory would recommend: “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap

“Every time I work out I listen to Trap Queen by Fetty at least once, but it’s typically on repeat a few times lol.”

Mallory Lovings would recommend: “Fergalicious” by Fergie and “Me, Myself and I” by Beyoncè

“Fergalicious by Fergie… It not only has a great beat to get you running and keep you at a good pace throughout any workout, but it also makes you feel good about yourself and reminds you that you’re hot even if you eat six donuts after your workout. Another good song is Me, Myself and I by Beyoncè. This is one of those songs that you HAVE to listen to when everything in life seems to be going to trash.”

Holly Nicole would recommend: “Long Live the Chief” by Jidenna

“Whenever I want to get pumped up for working out or just to feel confident, I like “Long Live the Chief” by Jidenna. Plus, this song was featured in Luke Cage, and if that isn’t motivational, I don’t know what is.”

Sammie Cedano, yours truly, would recommend: “Diva” by Beyonce and “Get Like” by Kehlani

“Diva” by Beyonce is one of my favorite songs to play when putting on makeup because it makes you feel so fierce. Also, when singing Beyonce, I always embarrass myself trying to hit those high notes, AKA whenever I sing “Love on Top” by Beyonce. This song requires no vocal talent and that is just great. “Get Like” by Kehlani is the song I listen to when I’m in my “feeling my boyfriend” mood and just happy in my feels about him. So, when you’re crushing on someone and want to dance around about it, listen to this song!”

Now that we shared our recommendations, which one will be your next go-to song?
