This Nail Polish Might Save Your Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

Soon we’ll all be able to add another tool to our belt in effort to protect ourselves from the sexual assault epidemic sweeping college campuses across the nation. This product is Undercover Colors, a nail polish that can detect commonly used date rape drugs like Rohypnol, Xanax and GHB. All you have to do is dip your freshly painted nail into your drink and, if drugs are present, the polish will change color.

Undercover Colors was founded by two NC State grads, Steve and Tyler. They say “the heart of founding Undercover Colors was a conviction that we could take the power we had as engineers to create something that gave power to others.”

Obviously, the ideal solution to sexual assault is ending it entirely. In the meantime however, 1 in 6 women are being sexual assaulted at some point in their life. This product will hopefully help lower the sexual assaults that happen as a result of drugged drinks, and bring about change.

ABC News calls it “the newest fashion accessory that may really, truly have the power to change lives.” While it is not available yet, you can keep up with their development on their Facebook and on their Instagram.
