It’s the end of the year, you’re prepping for finals, and the most common topic of conversation is: “What are you doing with your summer?” One friend has a cool internship with a publishing company, another has an internship with a political non-profit, one has a paid internship with a marketing firm, and what are you doing? Not an internship. With all of your friends getting hyped for their amazing internships it’s easy to feel like an unsuccessful, super lame, underachiever. But don’t fret because there are plenty of reasons why it’s completely okay to not have an internship this summer!
Here are just a few:
1. You can make some $$
Go back to your old summer job and make some spending money for next year! This way you can actually afford that weekly frozen yogurt next year.
2. You get to spend quality time with family and friends
Spend your summer catching up with the family and friends you don’t get to see during the school year. You know you’ve missed them like crazy.
3. You can finally read those books/ watch those movies you’ve always said you would
Everyone has that one list of books or movies that they always said they would read/watch if they got the time and summer is a perfect time to actually follow through! Whether it’s reading on the beach or popping some popcorn for movie marathons with friends, you have no excuse to not treat yourself.
4. You can take a nice breather
Life is stressful and we could all use a nice break every now and then. So this summer make sure to take some you-time!
5. You can spend some time thinking about what kind of internships you may want in the future
Chances are, you don’t even know what you want to do with your life. And that is totally okay! So maybe spend some time this summer thinking about what kind of internships you may want to do in the future. You can also get some feedback from your friends who completed internships over the summer and get some pointers so that when you decide you’re ready, you have the best internship experience possible.
