Some years ago, while still in high school an older member of the queer community introduced me to the strange and vast world of queer music. First and foremost, I am using the word queer as an umbrella term meant to describe anyone outside of what is socially considered the norm sexually and gender.
I personally believe in the importance of representation of all types of people, all races, genders, sexualities and lifestyles helps to socially inoculate us to realize that a lot of the things that we think are outside of the norm or extremely uncommon are in fact not.
Over the course of the last couple years since the instance I have listened to a lot more queer music, a lot of which comes from gay, lesbian and gender fluid people of color with in the queer community.
The following list is no specific order as to the artist’s position in my favorites.
