Her Campus Brandeis: How did you spend your summer?
Kalianni Neal-Desatnik: I spent the first part of my summer interning in the city attorney’s office. Most of it was filing and organizing, after all, I’m barely a pre-law student, but everyone was interested in sharing their current cases with me and I got to help out a little bit with research and creating policy, which was super cool. For most of the summer, I worked at a local Jewish day camp as a camp counselor for middle schoolers. I absolutely love camp and, although the kids can be a handful, I learn so much from them and truly love them. The last part of my summer was spent exploring the Pacific Northwest with my parents. I had never been to this area and it was gorgeous!
HC: What are you involved in on campus, or what do you hope to get involved in?
KND: Well I just got involved with Her Campus and already love it. I volunteer with our admissions department as a tour guide and chatter. In addition, I volunteer with Challah for Hunger which is a club that makes challah to sell on campus and all proceeds go to food charities. Lastly, I am a Student Ambassador for the Brandeis National Committee.
HC: Why did you choose to get involved with Her Campus? What do you enjoy most about writing for Her Campus?
KND: In the last couple years of high school I stumbled upon Her Campus while looking into college stuff and have continually read articles and generally enjoyed the website. This semester I had a lot of friends writing for Her Campus and although I was hesitant about my writing skills, I decided to give it a chance anyway!
HC: What attracted you to Brandeis?
KND: I really loved the abundance of opportunities that Brandeis has for students, as well as the supportive community on campus. Also having Boston so close is a major plus!
HC: What’s one thing on your Brandeis bucket list?
KND: I have watched the 24-hour musical, but before I graduate I want to partake in the madness.
Quick Facts
Favorite spot on Campus: The tables outside the SCC that look out on the great lawn, it’s such a good people watching location!
Favorite Food: Thai food or Kit-Kats
Favorite and Least Favorite Thing About the East Coast: I love how close everything is on the east coast it’s so easy to constantly be exploring! Â However the east coast does not know the first thing about fresh produce, which is all I long for all semester!
Sherman or Usdan: Usdan because I’m such a sucker for their mixed salads.
