Eight Foolproof Steps to get your Shit Together

Eight Foolproof Steps to get your Shit Together

It can be extremely difficult to juggle your personal, social, and academic lives while still trying to take care of yourself. Most people are just trying to make it to Friday – and I don’t blame them – but what if you could have it all. What if you could be THRIVING in all areas of your life and find that perfect balance that you didn’t even know was possible. It all starts with getting your shit together and I’m here to tell you exactly how to do that.

1. Wake up early.

I know this is the worst news and the least favorable wake up call (literally), but starting your day early will create more time for you to finish the things you need to get done and begin your day with an atmosphere of productivity. My favorite tip is to set your alarm with a motivating title – this can be anywhere from “Wake up, bitch.” to “Believe in yourself, beautiful.” – whichever will get your ass out of bed more efficiently.

2. Include working out into your everyday schedule.

Working out releases endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin into your brain which are feel good chemicals that uplift your mood, productivity, and focus immediately. While getting a nice ass, you’ll also be preparing your mind to ace your next exam – all with a smile on your face.

3. Keep your living space clean.

I am a firm believer in, “You are where you live.” If your home is a mess, your mind and life will directly reflect that. Setting aside fifteen to twenty minutes a night before bed to clean up, finish any extra laundry, and press start on the dishwasher can help you feel like a new woman and like you are one step closer to actually getting your shit together.

4. Candles. That is all.

Buy them. Light them. Smell them. From lavender to sea salt and coconut – you can never go wrong with a candle. You are one wick away from having your shit together – you got this girl.

5. Read a damn book.

Audiobook, ebook, paperback book (do those still exist?), ANY book – read one. Reading can help your mind relax while simultaneously keeping it active. Expanding your intellect will not only increase your self confidence and shift your perspective on life, but it will also make you incredibly attractive. Anyone can have a beautiful face, but a beautiful mind is what captivates a soul.

6. Have routines. Lots of them.

Whether it be a morning routine, bedtime routine, or skin care routine – you need one. Organizing the phases of your day into small steps makes what you need to do more enjoyable and easier to accomplish. Personally, I have an hour and a half bedtime routine, an hour morning routine, and a nine step skin care routine – but am I really doing enough???? You don’t have to be AS extra, but you get the point.

7. SELF CARE.

Contrary to my last statement – BE EXTRA, be high maintenance, take care of yourself. Make THRIVING and GLOWING your natural state of being. Putting yourself first and replenishing your soul will not only improve your relationship with yourself, but all of the relationships in your life. Take time to be intimate with your emotions. This could be writing in a journal, doing some positive self reflection, or even just talking out loud to yourself (I don’t care how crazy you feel – it works). Relaxing your mind, body, and soul to give yourself some peace and rejuvenation can make all the difference in your everyday life. So go grab some honey vanilla chamomile tea, put on a little Michael Bublé, and go spill your heart out, girl.

8. PLAN. PLAN. PLAN.

Know when your paper is due in your communications class, when your doctor appointment is, and when you have your next bikini wax and you’ll be golden baby. Write out all of the tasks you need to do for the day and accomplish them in order of importance. Having an hourly planner can be helpful and allows you to see everything you have going on in your day and when you have free time to do some of that self care we’ve been talking about.

Begin implementing these eight foolproof tips into your daily life and before you know it BOOM BABY – YOU HAVE YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!
