This week, we’ve focused on making everyone aware of the realities of breast cancer because awareness is the first step to dealing with any issue. Now, let’s talk about how you can help.
There are so many organizations that help cancer patients and survivors it’s easy to get lost in them all. So many causes and places to donate, how do you chose? No worries, that’s what we’re here for. Whether you don’t have much time and just want to make a monetary donation or you wanna give some hands-on help we’ve got an organization for you.
1. The Pink Fund
The Pink Fund provides financial assistance to women who’ve lost their income during active treatment. They also help cover patients’ health insurance costs, mortgage payments, utility bills, car insurance and other basic living expenses. This is a newer organization, founded in 2007, so it doesn’t have as much recognition but it definitely deserves some light.
2. Young Survival Coalition
Founded in 1998, YSC provides education and help to the smaller margin of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer at younger ages. They focus on issues to specific to younger women impacted by breast cancer and advocates for studies specific to them.
3. National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund
This National Breast Cancer Coalition sister program helps women understand their medical papers and work through the overwhelming amount of information to be able to make informed decisions. They spend 82 percent of revenue on education programs.
4. American Cancer Society
The ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk honors breast cancer survivors and caregivers; educate the public about prevention and detection to reduce the risk of the disease, and raise funds to help fight breast cancer.
5. Living Beyond Breast Cancer
LBBC works to provide easy access to information and community support. They offer specialized programs for men, African-Americans, young women, and the LGBTQ+ community.
All these organizations provide similar services in different ways. They serve the community of strong women that are battling breast cancer and kicking it’s a**!
