Songs Everyone Needs to Hear This Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bates chapter.

Whenever I find new music I tend to listen to those same songs over and over again until I find something new. These six songs have been on repeat on my phone and they should be on yours as well.

Doves In the Wind (feat. Kendrick Lamar) – SZA

Best line: “I hear your d**k is weak, buddy/It’s only replaced by a rubber substitute/We ain’t feelin’ you”

This song has a great vibe, not to mention the beat is very catchy. Also, Kendrick Lamar’s rap is amazing, he really understands the association men make between women and sex. SZA sings that line above and it’s honestly the greatest thing ever because ladies we know its true.

Hometown Girl – ZHU

Best line: “All the feelings in our hearts that we possess/Even though we’re making love, it’s not passionate”

Everyone loves a good beat and ZHU does not disappoint. It has an upbeat tone but a semi-sad message about missing someone else while in another relationship.

Electric (feat. Khalid) – Alina Baraz

Best line: “Melting like ice on a summer day/Hold me like you mean it, take me far away”

I LOVE this song. It’s a slow, sexy love song. Alina Baraz has a smooth voice that really is beautiful. Also, Khalid sings in it too, a perfect song.

What Lovers Do (feat. SZA) – Maroon 5

Best line: “Aren’t we too grown for games?/Aren’t we too grown to play around?/Young enough to chase/But old enough to know better”

By now you may have heard this song on the radio or on the top 50 charts and for a good reason, this song is super catchy. Adam Levine’s vocal range and SZA’s beautiful voice makes this song a perfect going out song.

Sorry Not Sorry – Demi Lovato

Best line: “Now I’m out here looking like revenge/Feelin’ like a ten, the best I ever been/And yeah, I know how bad it must hurt/To see me like this, but it gets worse”

I start out every workout with this song. It’s the perfect motivation song. Demi sings about feeling good about yourself and not being sorry for doing it. Also, it’s a good song to sing before a night out with your girls.

I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) – Lykke Li

Best line: “Oh I ask you, why not always?/Be the ocean, where I unravel/Be my only, be the water where I’m wading”

Yes, this song came out a while back but it’s a great song to dance to and even run to. The lyrics are simple and easy to remember so anyone can sing along. Bonus points, Columbian singer Maluma was even dancing to this Lykke Li song in Italy!
