How to Celebrate Fall When You Live in Eternal Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hawaii chapter.

The most confusing time of the year in Hawaii is when half of your friends are wearing bikinis on the beach to perfect their tan and the other half are trying to wrap a warm scarf around their neck drinking a hot coffee on the Starbuck’s Patio. When you see this, you know that fall has arrived (on the mainland at least)! I am a true fall admirer and I am sure some of you are too! Even though we are living in an eternal summer, here are five ways to celebrate the wonderful season of Fall:

1. The first and easiest way to channel your inner fall spirit is to get a fall scented candle! Whether it be apple pie, Caramel corn, or crisp autumn leaf scented, light that baby up and smell some fall!

Pro tip: Do a full self pampering session: paint your nail a fall color (neutrals, dark reds, navy, and army green) and take a bath while your fall candle is lit and watch some Netflix, you deserve it!

2. Ditch your go-to iced coffee and grab something pumpkin spiced and everything nice! Grab that PSL or any other hot coffee to sip on when the sun goes down or heading towards that air conditioned lecture hall! Your Starbucks is ready for fall and you should be too!

3. Go to a pumpkin patch or haunted house! Yes, pumpkins do grow in Hawaii, we have a lot more than pineapple fields people! A personal favorite is Aloun Farm’s Pumpkin Festival in Kapolei, which is open all Saturdays and Sundays in October! You can eat some roasted corn and go on a hay ride too! Bored at night? Head to a haunted plantation!

4. Snack time! Eat your favorite fall themed food. This can include all of the Halloween candy you can get your hands on to the much awaited Thanksgiving feast! Don’t forget the candy corn! Pass me the apple pie!

5. Finally, don’t be afraid to decorate! Head to the Halloween section of any store and grab a few decorations themed for fall, Halloween, or Thanksgiving! Easy ideas can include spider webs, mini pumpkins and gourds, or spooky lights! If you don’t want to spend money, get crafty and cut out a few pumpkins or ghosts and take them up around your dorm or apartment!

So there ya go island-bound fall lovers! Enjoy your “Autumn” in Paradise!

I matter. You matter. We matter.
