Everyone has seen a Questrom shirt walking down Comm Ave. The familiar teal blue text, the catchy phrase
“Questrom Means Business.” But you might not have heard another phrase, “Significado Negocio Means Business.” That’s the phrase for the cultural group Questrom Latino here at Boston University.

Celina Saffioti (QST ‘21) joined the club this year after being encouraged by her Questrom Ascend mentor, Karla Carruitero (QST ‘19), who is also the club’s president. “She specifically asked if I’d be interested in the E-board, and recommended I take the position for social media manager.” Celina now manages Questrom Latino’s Facebook page, which you can find here. She works alongside Jorge Cedeño (QST ‘21), who manages the group’s Instagram page.

Questrom Latino is a fairly new club at BU, starting around 5-10 years ago, but is quickly expanding. Although the name might hint otherwise, Saffioti wanted to emphasize that anyone can join. “The overall mission of the club is to promote professionalism amongst groups that aren’t usually considered to fit the ‘typical businessman’.” They host a variety of events including everything from bringing in a speaker from EY, an accounting firm, to preparing mock dinners to review table etiquettes and further emphasize professionalism. Some other events that the group has hosted in the past include an empanada sale (don’t worry, there’s another coming up!) and a food & study.

There are usually 1-3 events hosted each month by the group. Some upcoming ones include:

  • An empanada sale at the GSU on October 18th

  • A soccer tournament on November 4th from 1-4pm

Saffioti mentions that the best part of joining the organization so far has been the “cultural immersion” and “meeting all of the people.” Growing up, she didn’t really have many opportunities to embrace her Hispanic heritage, and Questrom Latino has inspired her to go back to and appreciate her roots.

Getting involved is easy! Everyone is invited to attend their events. To subscribe to the newsletter and get on the email list, send an email to questromlatino@gmail.com.
