It’s unfortunate to know that so many people are involved in toxic relationships. Some suffer silently because they are unaware that their romance is detrimental to their health. Others refuse to seek help because they convince themselves that they can’t do any better. Or perhaps the thought of being alone causes distress. Regardless of the reason, everyone deserves a romance built on unconditional love and understanding rather than abuse and deceit. If you have the slightest inclination that your relationship is toxic, it’s important to do whatever is best for your overall well-being.
1.They are constantly trying to control you
Your significant other shouldn’t try to control your life for their own benefit. It’s emotionally draining, being told you can’t wear certain clothing, or interact with a specific person simply because your SO(significant other) said you couldn’t. It’s never okay to feel pressured to do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.
2.You are constantly being lied to
One of the foundations of a healthy relationship is trust. Once it’s broken it’s difficult to rebuild. Don’t settle for lies, it’s the ultimate level of disrespect.
3.They make everything about them
If they always put their feelings before your own and make you feel guilty for having a concern, this proves they could care less about your emotions. A healthy relationship means listening, and caring about each other’s feelings.
4.They remind you of your past mistakes any chance they get
We all make mistakes. The goal is to grow and learn from them. If you’re actively trying to learn from them, it hurts hearing your SO use the past to attack you.
5. They aren’t there for you emotionally or physically
Trust me, it’s better to be single than alone in a relationship. If they’re absent for long periods of time (excluding long distance and busy work schedules) you shouldn’t waste your time. The same applies if they don’t give you the attention you deserve.
7. They are extremely jealous
We all feel insecure sometimes but if they’re always complaining and spewing false accusations it can lead to even worse circumstances. Imagine having your phone checked or told you can’t go somewhere without them.
