20 Things to Do Before Turning 20

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxford Emory chapter.

  1. Take a Road Trip

Gather your giggly group of friends and embark on a trip that you’ll remember for the rest of your lives. Live off of gas station snacks, see the sites, and just enjoy your freedom and friendships!

2.               Vote

Make a difference and register to vote!

3.               Get a Passport and GO

Be a responsible adult and get your documents together. Then go have fun! Go somewhere you’ve always dreamed of seeing and be an obvious tourist. It’ll change your life!

4.               Try a New Dish

Explore the world’s diverse cultures and try a new cuisine!

5.               Dance in a Flash Mob

Let loose and join in the madness!!

6.               Get a Mall Makeover

I have never had a Mall Makeover that I didn’t immediately scrub off, but the hilarious memories of getting horrible makeovers with friends will last a lifetime!

7.               Write a Poem

Unleash your thoughts and feelings and write a poem about something you love!

8.               Sleep Under the Stars

Get in touch with nature and enjoy the beautiful night sky

9.               Stay Up All Night for Fun

Get your friends together and talk, philosophize, joke, dance, binge-watch, or anything you like! Just stay up until the sun starts to rise and enjoy how peaceful the morning can be.

10.            Watch the Sunrise

One day, wake up early and grab a warm drink to cozy up as you watch the sun ascend there’s simply nothing like it.

11.            Go On a Tech Diet

Arrange for someone to save your streaks but leave technology behind you for 24 hours. It’ll refresh you and remind you how to be confident in yourself.

12.            Get a Job

Part of growing up is getting a job! It’ll teach you about life, people, and yourself!

13.            Throw A Surprise Party

Surprises can be so fun but only if you know the person you’re surprising as well as you know the back of your hand. Throw a surprise party for your best friend because you know them, love

them, and want to make them smile. Just make sure the cameras are ready to capture their reaction!

14.            Have a Dance Party in the Rain

Rain is a beautiful thing so learn to embrace it. When you hear it start to patter, grab a friend and run wild through the downpour! You’ll feel so alive!

15.            Go to Dinner and a Movie by Yourself

Learn to be confident in doing what you love by yourself. Treat yourself to a movie and dinner just because you can!

16.            Have A Summer Where You Don’t Do Anything

We might not be able to sit around not doing anything our whole lives but take the opportunity one summer to be a total bump on the log to read books, watch movies, and wander around your

hometown.

17.            Go on a Hike

Appreciate the nature around you and go for a real day-long hike with friends or family!

18.            Host Friendsgiving

Food, Friends, and Laughter? What could be better? Host Friendsgiving to let your nonbiological loved ones know that you’re thankful for them being a part of your life!

19.            Be a Child Again

Make a blanket fort and watch all your favorite Disney Movies. Scream chanting along to the lyrics in Mulan is highly recommended.

20.            Write Yourself a Love Letter

Sit down and write what you love about yourself and open it when you’re feeling low to remind yourself of how great you are!

Oxford Emory '18

As a Political Science Major and a French Minor, I have big dreams of making a positive difference in the world. In 2017, I had the incredible honor of being named Co-Campus Correspondent of Her Campus at the Oxford College of Emory University alongside Marine Bruno. Although I graduated from Oxford College, I will always have fond memories of my time with Her Campus. Even as I move on to a new phase in my life, I look forward to watching Her Campus at Oxford Emory grow!
