Yesterday, I called my best friend to tell her about my latest idea: changing my major. My plan was to change my major to something very different and uncommon, something I had never dreamed of beforehand. 30 seconds into our conversation, my best friend realized that this major was not right for me, at all and I didn’t notice. It seemed like a nice idea. Once she started asking questions that I didn’t think of before but I knew were important to me, I realized that I would be making a huge mistake if I decided to change my major. Through this conversation, I realized how truly important it is to surround myself with people that know me and aren’t afraid to question my crazy ideas. To my best friends: thank you for always having my back.

Thanks for always listening to my annoying comments about my insecurities. More importantly, thank you for correcting me and encouraging me to think positively and strongly about myself.

Thanks for always being there when anyone hurt my feelings. Thank you for defending me when I couldn’t defend myself and expecting me to do the same for you. You taught me to be loyal and caring and you taught me what it means to be a friend.

Thank you for making me laugh until my stomach hurts and my eyes water. Thank you for laughing at me and with me.

Thank you for always binging on food with me. There’s nothing better in life.

Thank you for going on long drives with me and listening to my favorite songs.

Thank you for being who you are. Thank you for showing me how to embrace who I am and how to unapologetically be myself.

There’s so much more I could say, but the point I want to make is that it is so important to choose friends wisely. You become who you surround yourself with and it helps if they are looking out for you and building you up to be the best version of yourself! As Carrie Bradshaw said, “maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and boys are just people to have fun with!”
