What You Need to Know about Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCU chapter.

The Fenty Beauty line seems to be the only thing people are talking about lately. I am a beauty junkie, so of course I bought pretty much the whole line. After testing it out for a month or so, I finally can tell you what you will absolutely want to spend your money on and what you will want to pass.

1. The Pro Filt’r Foundation

I really love her foundation. It is full coverage and mostly matte; however, it still leaves your skin looking natural. The only downside to the foundation is that it does oxidize, so you might want to buy a shade lighter than your actual skin tone. It also dries very quickly, so I recommend that you work in sections. On a positive note, there are 40 shades in the line, so there is definitely a shade for everyone. If you have oily skin, I would say this is something to splurge on. If you have dry skin, you probably won’t like this.

2. Killa-Watt Highlighters

These are an absolute must! I’m sure many of you have seen the crazy gold highlighter called “Trophy Wife”. This is truly a stunning highlight; however, it will not work for most skin tones. If you have a lighter skin tone, stay away from that highlighter and go ahead and get yourself one of her lighter shades. I highly recommend the “Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby” highlighting duo. It is absolutely stunning! It has amazing pigmentation and looks very dewy and wet on the skin. One side is full out sparkle, and the other has a more satin finish. I do not recommend that you buy the “Metal Moon” highlighter, because it lacks major pigmentation on the skin.

3. Contour and Highlighting Creme Sticks

I enjoy her creme contour stick, but I think you can do without the rest. The blush and highlighting sticks are very pretty. If you are into creme products then I suggest you buy one or two, but if you are not into creme contour, then you will not benefit from these products. Also, while I feel like her highlighting sticks lack pigmentation, the contour sticks are fabulous and leave a very nice shadow in the hallows of your cheeks.

4. Blotting Powder, Lip gloss, and Applicators

I really enjoy her foundation brush, but that is about it from the applicators. Her blotting powder is nothing special either, so no need to spend your money there. On the other hand, I absolutely love her Gloss Bomb. It comes with a huge applicator and a fruit punch scent. It gives your lips a beautiful, very glossy tint! I would purchase this again.

Overall, her line is very strong and consistent. The majority of her products are great, and I will repurchase them, but some of the basics can be bought somewhere else for cheaper. I hope this helps you decide what products you should splurge on!
