Reasons to be Thankful

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

Time to put on your Thanksgiving pants, Joey.

Tis’ the season for Friendsgiving, apple cider mimosas, and finding it hard to cherish any moment of Thanksgiving season when finals are on the other side of break and Christmas season is already in full force. Although break-ups, failed exams, lack of sleep, or empty bank accounts often pervade each semester after the next, the outshining times of friendship and family can never be discounted. Dance parties in the kitchen, late nights spent with roommates, or simply a shared meal pick up our spirits and leave us with grateful hearts.

Where there are broken hearts and loneliness, there, too, is time to find independence and passion. When there is a lack of leadership, there, too, are acts of courage and heroism. When there are breakdowns and conflictions, there, too, are times of clarity and release. When PSL’s go out of season, Peppermint Mochas are here to replace. Life continues to carry on and each day we wake up on the other side is a day to be to be filled and to be thankful. I have found that the people around me, the people who are kind in character and decide to be there in thought and fellowship, fill my days with meaning and touch my heart in the most tremendous ways. Thankfulness transpires daily; it can’t be confined to just one day a year.

The love and counsel of relationships are enough reason for the season. We can rejoice in the good cups of coffee, the encouraging notes left on fridges, the God-given front row parking spots, and professors that curve exams because school isn’t forever, but the exceptional humans we have found are for a lifetime!
