Matt Lauer Terminated From NBC News Over Inappropriate Sexual Misconduct

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Matt Lauer has been fired from NBC News due to inappropriate sexual behavior reports. The news first broke this morning on Today with Savannah Guthrie making the announcement.

E! Online reports the termination occurred after Andy Lack, NBC News chairman, was made aware of the inappropriate sexual behavior between Lauer and a colleague. His employment was then terminated by the organization.

Lack announced the news in a memo to the NBC News staff early Wednesday morning. The memo was read by Guthrie, who was on the verge of tears, later in the morning on Today.

Lauer has been with NBC News for over 20 years and there was not once a complaint of this nature before. Lack’s memo stated, “While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”
