It is officially December and although we cannot stop counting the days for this semester to end, the anticipation for Christmas is also building up. This is usually a time for us to reflect on the whole year and spend time with loved ones whom we are grateful to have in our lives. However, not everyone in this world is as fortunate as you, and may not have the chance to have the most ideal holiday season. With that being said, since it is the season of giving I thought I’d make a quick guide that consists of ways you can make a difference this holiday season.
- On December 16th, 2017 “Feeding south Florida” will be hosting its set the holiday table Sort-A-Thon where food will be sorted out for those families in south florida whom may not have enough food in their table. - The neighbors for neighbors organization will be hosting its annual “adopt a family for the holidays” program. Families are encouraged to help another family in need and make a personal connection with them, more details on this opportunity can be found on their website: http://neighbors4neighbors.org/adopt_a_family
- Every holiday season, the U.S Marines also hosts their annual toys for tots drive, in which individuals are encouraged to donate gifts or campaign for children who are less fortunate, more information can be found on their local website!: https://hialeah-fl.toysfortots.org/local-coordinator-sites/lco-sites/default.aspx
- The Nicklaus Children’s hospital is always looking for toy donations for its patients, its not always the best to spend the holidays in a hospital room and just the smallest gift can make a child’s entire day better. While sometimes we may get caught up on our own things, it’s refreshing to give rather than receive and feel as though you are a part of something bigger than yourself. What better way is there to end the year than by making someone’s day a little bit brighter.
