3 Ways To Have Fun At A Dance If You Don’t Have A Date

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Regent chapter.

Dances. Every school has them: Homecoming dances, winter formals, spring parties. One theme that remains consistent among dances is the subtle societal requirement to attend the dance with a date. In modern days, going with a group of friends is also acceptable.

But going to a dance solo? Now that is just crazy.

Recently, I attended my university’s annual Winter Ball. Did I go with a date? No. Did I go with friends? Not really. I went single.

Many of us are probably intimately aware of the awkwardness it feels to be at a couples’ dance alone, so here are three ways to have fun at a dance if you don’t have a date.

Find A Friend To Dance With

Odds are, you’re not the only person feeling out of place at a couples’ dance. Go be brave and fine a friend to dance with!

Hang Out With Friends

Dances can be good opportunities to catch up with friends after the craziness of finals week. Find a somewhat quiet corner, take a seat, and just relax. Being at a dance doesn’t mean you have to dance. Especially if you’re like me and cannot dance. At all.

Enjoy The Food

Possibly one of the best parts about school dances is the food. At my university’s Winter Ball, we had some amazing food: Cheese dip, cake, cookies, shrimp, turkey wraps, and punch. Now that finals are over and you have time to eat again, enjoy the food! While everyone else is busy dancing, sneak a few extra cookies.

There are tons of ways to have a good time at a dance without depending on a date for your happiness. Just enjoy the friends you’re with and you’ll have a great time!
