How to Stay on Top of Your Game this Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

We’ve only been on campus for a week, and the spring semester is already in full swing. If you’re anything like me, that includes feeling the urge to cry over the never-ending stress of looming due dates and exams.

Never fear, collegiettes! I’ve made a list of tips that will take some stress away and help you feel like you’re on top of your game!

1. Get a head start on your major assignments

During syllabus week, professors and TAs usually give a heads up about major assignments that are going to account for pretty much 99.9% of your grade. Instead of stressing about it last minute, start thinking of ideas and planning out when you can work on it throughout the semester.

2. Don’t procrastinate

This feels super hypocritical of me to say, considering I hold the title of World’s Best Procrastinator, but staying on top of assignments can help ease the pressure of your courses. If your professor gives you homework that’s due in a week, start it as soon as possible. Slowly chipping away at the seemingly endless amount of work will be so worth it in the long run. As the wise Shia Labeouf once said, “Just do it.”

3. Take breaks when you need to

Sometimes you just need to sit back and watch Netflix for 5 hours. This is when you’ll be really happy you listened to me before, because that Gilmore Girls marathon will feel so much better when you don’t have all of the work you haven’t started hanging over you.

4. Stay Organized

Get a planner … or find anything that will help you remember what’s due and when. I like to use the reminders app on my phone and laptop, but find something that works for you. Having everything written down might feel like drowning in work, but checking a few things off that list will be the best feeling.

5. When the stress starts getting to you, relax

With different assignments and due dates being thrown at you left and right, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Remember, you’re at college to learn, but that doesn’t mean you can’t relax. Take a deep breath, watch a movie, read a book, head to the gym; do something you enjoy that helps you unwind.

Good luck on the semester, collegiettes!
