What I’ve Learned From Living in a Sorority House

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Choosing to join a sorority was the easiest decision I’ve ever made. It has given me the best of friends, a caring and supportive environment, and, most importantly, it has taught me lessons. Living in a house with fifty other girls is nothing less than exciting and crazy all at once, and here are some of the things I’ve learned.

1) I will always have a friend to go to the gym with…even if we just end up laying on the mats instead of actually working out.

2) The house will never be quiet and investing in a good pair of headphones was the greatest decision I’ve made while living in!

3) Girls have their share of grossness- I share two bathrooms with fifty other girls and sometimes it just really hits me how gross girls can actually be. There’s hair…EVERYWHERE!

4) I never fail to laugh even when I’m in the worst mood. My sorority sisters are truly funny whether they mean to be or not.

5) I always have people to tell my secrets to and know that they’re going to be safe. Living in a sorority house is like having fifty confidants that you can trust with the most embarrassing of secrets.

6) Nights in are never boring! If I decide that going out just isn’t going to happen there’s always a few other girls with junk food and movies ready for a girls night in.

7) The bad days aren’t really that bad. Living with these girls is like living with therapists except it’s a lot cheaper and not as uncomfortable!

8) I always have people to go on adventures with! Whether it’s down the street to the grocery store or up a mountain there’s always someone ready to go with me.

9) We eat…A LOT!

10) Most importantly I’ve learned that it is possible to find your people and make friends who turn into family.
