For a girl who loves taking fifteen minutes to perfect her eyeliner, taking mandatory 8:30 classes was rough.  It meant that I had to wake up at 7 am every day to put on a full face of makeup. Eventually, I realized this was not a sustainable routine as I prioritized those extra 15 minutes of sleep in the morning over my makeup routine. So today I want to share with you my tips and tricks for a quick and easy makeup routine that will get you out of the door in under 10 minutes.

1. Eyebrows

If you are blessed with thick, full eyebrows, you can definitely skip this step but for gals out there who have no eyebrows like myself, this is a crucial step. Eyebrows are like photo frames for your face. Filling in your eyebrows can instantly make you look more put together and bring out the features of your face. But be careful: because this is a very natural look, it is important to not fill in your eyebrows too much or it can look too harsh. I recommend using a pencil over a pomade/gel type to draw in light, feathery strokes to mimic eyebrow hairs.

Specific product recommendation: NYX micro brow pencil

My favourite brow pencil of all time, the NYX micro pencil, gives you ultimate control with its thin shape consistency to help you achieve the most natural look you can achieve.

2. Concealer

I’ve realized that while a foundation is nice to give an even and flawless complexion, trying to blend it into your skin just seems like a long, tedious task at 7 in the morning. I’ve recently switched over to using just a concealer to cover up my horrible dark circles and also to cover up any specific spots. This saves a lot of time while still giving you the coverage that you want. Make sure to be extra picky about the shade of concealer you want to use since you are only covering up small spots on your face rather than covering the entire skin.

Specific product recommendation: Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Concealer or Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

These two concealers guarantee full coverage for your face so you don’t have to worry about putting on multiple layers. The liquid consistency also melts effortlessly into your skin so you don’t have to spend a lot of time trying to blend the product into your skin.

3. Eyelashes

Every girl knows the struggle of trying to make eyeliner wings even and I am no exception. That’s why I completely skip eyeliner and move straight to eyelashes. Just putting mascara on your lashes can drastically emphasize your eyes and make them appear more awake. For an even easier and faster routine, I have recently started investing in eyelash extensions, which is something you should definitely consider if you are looking for an even simpler routine.

Specific product recommendation: Benefit They’re Real mascara or Benefit Roller Lash

These two mascaras don’t necessarily give you the most dramatic, false eyelash effect but they definitely do comb and coat every single lash for more natural volume and length.

4. Lipstick

I like to use a natural shade of lipstick to just quickly dab on my lips, but another trick that I also learned is to use lipstick as a blush. Just swiping lipstick on your cheeks and quickly blending it in with your fingers gives an effortless flush to your cheeks, and you save time by only having to use one product. Matching the colour of your lips to your cheeks gives a much more natural look.

Specific product recommendation: Any moisturizing lipstick will do!
