Cute Campus Couple

Luis Méndez & Félix Sambrana

How’d you two meet?

FS: Okay.

They both laugh.

LM: Now that’s a story.

FS: This story, esta historia está algarete. I met him because he was going out with my ex.

Her Campus: Oh!

FS: Yeah! My ex and I were on and off, and at that moment we were off, so my ex was going out with him. And… That’s how we met!

LM: On our first date (his ex and me).

FS: Yeah… It was like two years after that we had left each other for good (my ex and me), and we decided to go out, and here we are!

LM: During that, we had been friends for a long time, and we noticed we were very much alike.

How long have you been together?

FS: Actually, starting tomorrow, 2 years!

HC: Ah! Congrats!

FS: Thanks!

What was the first thing you noticed about each other?

FS: Honestly, your hair.

LM: Well, considering the circumstances in which we met, the hate in his eyes.

FS: Well, yeah, I mean, I was jealous. You were with my ex whom I still liked.

HC: Well, we did interview another couple that hated each other at first, and now they’re going strong.

FS: See? Except, gotta admit, our situation was pretty f**ked up.

LM: Obviously!

What makes your relationship work?

FS: Honestly, I think that what makes our relationship work is how in sync we are with each other. We understand each other very well. I mean, if… It’s that we’re so alike that we’re normally in the same vibes and state of being. We like the same things, we dislike the same things…

LM: For example, sometimes I can be thinking something, I say it, and then he says he was thinking the same thing.

FS: And in the weird times when we’re not in sync, we always reach a middle ground or meet halfway.

One word to describe your partner.

FS: One word that describes you? I think that comprehensive. It’s that you know I’m always dying from anxiety or whatever, and you’re always… I don’t know how or where you get all the patience you have, but, you have to be comprehensive.

LM: Neither do I. Hmm… I think the word I would use would be a**hole in a good way because tú te las traes a veces, but it’s good. I’m one too.

FS: At what level would you put me?

LM: Well, if we had to do a scale from 1-10, maybe a 7. 10 is intolerable and 5 is everybody.

Happy two year anniversary Luis & Felix! <3

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Josie is a senior in the UPR-Río Piedras campus, majoring in English Literature. When she's not on campus, you can find her browsing a bookstore (as if her TBR pile isn't big enough already!). Books and writing are what drives this girl--apart from fighting to destigmatize mental illnesses and raising awareness about the importance of consent. Josie enjoys traveling, bingeing on spicy food and a lot of sweets, blasting Bieber, and adding shows or movies to her Netflix queue that she'll never get to. Josie is a junior editor for the Rio Piedras chapter in Puerto Rico. If you want to see what else Josie is up to, you can catch her on her bookstagram.
Antoinette Luna is a Performance Studies and Comparative Literature major at the UPR. Her passions include writing, reading, and anything crafty.
