Relay for life is one of the most premier events to fundraise for cancer where the community comes together to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Relay is a team fundraiser event hosted by communities in which individuals come together and form teams to participate in events. Within these events, teams walk around a track or path to represent that cancer “never sleeps” and there must be at least one member on the track at all times. Volunteers relay for cancer survivors, victims, loved ones and most importantly those who cannot.

Relay has turned into the image of communities vs cancer as more people come together to form events. Our own institution, Florida International University, is hosting its annual Relay For Life event this Friday March 2, in hopes to raise funds and spread awareness. The event will take place at FIU Modesto Maidique Campus from March 2nd 5pm to March 3rd 2am. In the event itself you have the option to join/create a team or come as an individual. There is a $15 registration fee that goes as a donation. Teams are encouraged to participate in a theme and set up tents with activities, food and much more fundraiser opportunities in which all proceeds go towards their overall team fundraising goal and is donated to the American Cancer Society. This year’s theme is superheroes. In addition to tents and many other activities, individuals also have the opportunity to cut their hair on stage solely to donate. Relay is a fun opportunity to give back to the community and stand up for those who can’t. Below is an image from the American Cancer Society website on how the event will go:
