A Beginner’s Experience with Crystals, Astrology and Meditation Tools

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

We all know how obsessed everyone in LA is with zodiac signs and crystals. There’s a certain spirituality that can help provide advice or understanding about yourself depending on when you were born or where the moon is in its cycle, for example. I’m a beginner to the world of crystals, so I wanted to try a Spiritual, New Age & Crystal subscription box from Cratejoy. The monthly boxes send you a variety of vegan, cruelty-free items that can help you feel enlightened and renewed. My Goddess Provisions box starts at $33 a month; it’s a great way to indulge in your spiritual interests or, like me, begin your astrological journey.

Here’s my experience with goodies from my Goddess Provisions box:

1. Dalmatian Jasper

The Dalmatian Stone helps ground yourself to connect with your body. “Meditate with this crystal to help you see the big picture so you can plan your next moves with care and a sense of playfulness.” Indeed, the stone helps bring our your inner child and can help those who are too analytical just be. My stone was very cold and smooth, and I learned that it’s most effective when used in the long term to find emotional harmony.

2. Denik Silver Eyes Notebook and Spiral Spectrum’s Mini Moon Calendar

The notebook is meant to help your stream of consciousness flow out. I enjoy journaling regularly, but I’ve really been slacking off since I’ve been in college. Personally, writing my thoughts or daily observances really helps me feel in tune with my emotions and desires. As for the moon calendar, I learned that you can optimize your life by syncing with the moon phases. For example, a new moon signifies rebirth, so you should begin making new plans. A gibbous moon (right before the full moon) stands for development and evaluation, so you should take time to analyze where you are in life. The last page of the calendar also has the 2018 moon transits. Next to your astrological sign, it lists dates and times that the moon will cross over the meridian line, meaning it’s a good time for your sign to make plans. I’m a cancer, so in March, the moon ingresses into my sign on March 24 at 4:52 a.m. It’s unlikely I’ll be awake at that time tbh.

3. Motivational Serum

I’m no stranger to essential oils, but this is next level. The Hippie Homesteader aromatherapy blend includes lime, rosemary, pine needle and peppermint oils in one lovely serum. The goal is to “spark mental clarity.” I really detected the pine and rosemary scents, giving the impression that I was back in my backyard in the Pacific Northwest. The motivational potion comes with a roller ball, so it’s perfect for dabbing on your wrist, neck or perhaps even temples to soothe yourself.

4. Pacifica Eye Cream

If you aren’t already on board with Pacifica, you’re missing out. The vegan and cruelty-free makeup brand offers some of my favorite products, from the solid perfumes to hand creams. In the Goddess Provisions kit, I found the $14 Pacifica Dark Circle Rehab Concentrated Correcting Creams. The instructions say to use it if you’re up late listening to your creative muse, but realistically, it’s also optimal after studying all night for an exam.

5. Inspirational Mason Jar

It’s important to keep hydrated, and this hip mason jar also reminds you to appreciate every moment throughout your day. It’s a little much for me, as someone who isn’t a regular mediator or yogi, but I appreciated the cute cup.

6. Numi Tea Vision Tea and Addictive Wellness Focus Chocolate

To top everything off, my Goddess Provisions box includes some delicious treats. The tea is a comforting blend of guayusa, lemon verbena, cinnamon, spearmint, hibiscus, rosemary, ginger and nutmeg. The chocolate, on the other hand, features super foods like lucuma (nutrient rich fruit), lion’s mane (mushrooms that helps the immune system), ginseng (energy boosting root), ashwagandha (rejuvenating herb) and cordyceps (medicinal mushrooms). Honestly, say no more, because a cozy afternoon with some calming tea and powerful chocolate is all I need.

Other monthly subscription boxes can include everything from written rituals to tools like crystals, candles, incense and herbs. Sometimes a little self care is all we need.
