New hair, Who is this?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

First of all, Happy Women’s History Month to all the beautiful people who will come across this article. Now let’s talk about hair, women of color’s hair to be exact. The versatility and the glow a hairstyle can give. It’s like when you get your hair done you feel like a new person. You were stressing all week and once your hair is done the stress vanishes.  New hair style, who’s this? Black women can rock baldies, Afros, braids, bundles or whatever else they put their minds to. In the hair industry, we see stylists/people do so many things to hair. While trying to find products to help with her hair loss, Madam C.J. Walker turned around and invented products that black girls will use forever. With her products, she was able to start a business for black women, supplying them with products that they didn’t know that they needed. Madam C.J. Walker was the first black women millionaire in America.

Now let’s talk about my hair. I feel like I’ve tried every style but to be honest there’s so many to choose from I don’t think I will ever wear them all. Recently, I have tried to do the no heat thing and boy have I learned that that is not for me. I love natural styles though. The Afros, the curly top, the twist outs and so much more. I have just learned that those styles take a lot of patience and time which are two things I feel like I’m always running out of. Also, it’s a lot of maintenance which I haven’t mastered yet but one day I will be able to rock no heat hairstyles for more than one week. Shout out to Madam C.J Walker for inventing the hot comb and Erica Feldman for inventing the flat iron. So, when the no heat thing isn’t working I have product to straighten my hair to desire. Although, the no heat hairstyles didn’t work for me I think everyone should goggle and try at least one. Open your mind to versatility.
