Don’t Know What to Do for Spring Break? Here Are Four Last Minute Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Scenario 1: laying out in the warm sun, drinking a pina colada, reading your favorite book.

Scenario 2: sitting in your room, scrolling through Instagram, feeling major FOMO.

Of the two scenarios, we’re sure you’d much rather choose the first. But spring break is less than a week away and if scenario two is looking more and more likely, then grab your suitcase, collegiate, because we have some exciting last-minute spring break ideas that you will definitely love.

1. Rent an Airbnb

Thanks to affordable accommodation options like Airbnb, you don’t need to spend the money on an expensive hotel room to go on vacation.  You and your girls can go on a road trip to Georgia, Tennessee, or the other coast of Florida and rent a cheap cabin. The low cost of this, matched with a quick trip to Walmart will allow you and your friends to have a low-budget and fun last-minute trip.

2. Visit a friend at another college

Besides going to UF for your spring break (ew) you can visit friends who go to different colleges. Acting as your own personal tour guide, they can show you the best spots and hidden gems in their stomping grounds and you can make memories that will last a lifetime. If you don’t want to stay in one town for a whole week, make an adventure of it and visit multiple friends and multiple schools!

3. Go home

This idea might not sound that fun on the surface, but think about it: home-cooked meals, hometown friends and a refreshing getaway from Tallahassee. As amazing as Florida State is, it’s often nice to get back to your roots and enjoy time at home—and spring break is the perfect opportunity to do so. Not only will you benefit from this trip, but your parents (who haven’t seen you since Christmas) will as well.

4. Staycation

If none of these options are for you, and you’re starting to like the idea of scenario 2, then a staycation is perfect for you. Tallahassee and surrounding towns all have plenty of outdoorsy activities that you can enjoy throughout the week. Whether you try something new by visiting the Canyons in South Georgia, adventuring to the caverns in Marianna or park hopping from Lake Ella to Cascades, there are definitely multiple spring break activities for you to do.

As a senior in college, I’ve realized that spring break is something that I’ve taken for granted. The so-called real world is getting closer and closer and the reality that I no longer will have a spring break is jolting. But while we’re all still enjoying Florida State and have the ability to go on vacations with our best friends, we should do what we can. Make the most out of next week, take hundreds of Instagram pictures and soak it all in. Be safe, be smart and have FUN no matter what you decide to do!
