The Perks of Spending Spring Break At Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Yes, spending a week relaxing on the beach in Insta worthy locations sounds great, but if that’s not an option this year, your break isn’t going to be a total bust. There is so much hype around going on tropical vacations over spring break, but sometimes the best getaway is a trip back home.

  1. Best Way to Save Money

Money is something that every college student constantly needs but never has enough of. Spending spring break at home includes a free place to stay and free home cooked meals everyday! No all-inclusive resort can beat those perks! Plus, there’s no pressure to purchase any cute new outfits which saves you from more stressing and spending.

  1. Make Money

Following the aforementioned perk, going home for spring break is a great opportunity to reach out to old babysitting families or summer/high school jobs. See if you can get in some hours while you’re home so not only are you SAVING money, but you can MAKE money! Spring break is also the perfect time to schedule an interview for a summer internship or job opportunity. Being home a couple months before you’re on summer break is a great advantage for securing a summer job.

  1. Cruising Around Your Hometown

Nothing is better than being home and hitting all your favorite spots! I love driving through town and going to familiar places. Always make sure to hit your favorite restaurants and stores while you’re home because you don’t always have the same luxuries around campus!

  1. See The People You Love

Most schools have different schedules, so if you’re home for your spring break your friends from home might still be in school. This is a great time to visit friends who go to school near home. I love visiting my friends at college because it’s great to meet all of their new friends and catch up on life. This still leaves plenty of time to visit family. I love visiting my grandparents whenever I’m home from school, especially because my grandmother prepares enough food to feed 100 people. One more perk of staying home is getting to spend the week with your favorite animals! A week spent snuggling my dogs beats any crowded beach vacation.

  1. Quality Me Time

Sometimes a break from constantly being surrounded by your friends is the most relaxing way to spend your time off from school. Create your own mini-vacation by getting mani pedis with your mom, scheduling a facial or massage, indulging in your favorite foods, reading a good book or binging on your favorite show. There are plenty of ways to treat yourself without going on an extravagant trip. Use this week at home to recharge so you can come back to school rested and ready to take on the rest of the year.
