Spring Break is right around the corner and for some college students, that means traveling. If you’re like me, you picked a destination and started budgeting at the beginning of the fall semester. But if you haven’t, never fear. Here are five spring break destinations that you can still visit if you have a little savings and a few hours to plan.
If you want a beach getaway…
Cruise to the Bahamas
This destination may be on the more expensive end of your budget, but it requires less planning. If you like staying busy, the company you cruise with usually has planned excursions, though they are at an additional cost. If you would rather relax on the beach, there’s always that option too. All you need to know is how you’re going to get to the ship to disembark and how to get back home afterwards. Plus, food on the ship is usually included in the cost.
Florida
While this is one of the stereotypical spring break destinations, it earns the reputation. Florida has many different beaches. It has Disney World. It has Universal Studios. From parasailing to amusement parks to laying out on the beach with a book, Florida can be as adventurous or as chill as you make it.
If you want to visit the mountains…
Gatlinburg, TN
There’s always Colorado, but the Smoky Mountains are much closer. Gathering friends together and splitting a cabin in Gatlinburg can be one of the least expensive getaways. You could find a cabin with a hot tub, bring games and books in case it rains, go hiking trails, and visit the shops in town.
If you want to explore a city…
St. Louis
If you’ve never been to St. Louis, it’s definitely worth a visit. You can go up in the arch for $10. There’s a fee to park in the zoo parking lot, but entry into the zoo is free. There’s the Magic House, the Science Center, and the Lemp Mansion. There are ice skating rinks and iconic food stops, such as Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. Unless you’ve lived in St. Louis your whole life, there’s enough to do that you won’t be bored.
If your budget is too tight…
House Hop
If you and your friends want to do something fun for spring break but you don’t have enough money, one of the best things to do is house hop. Plan out the most logical route between everyone’s houses, budget for gas and food, and spend a little bit of time at each house for spring break. I did this with my group of friends our freshman year, and it was a great way to explore their hometowns.
