Saint Patrick’s Day, a coveted holiday of the college aged crowd. The holiday brings around green beer, an excuse to drink all day long, a reason to buy a new outfit, and of course an opportunity for new memories to be made. Every year there seems to be that one person that takes their Irish heritage to the extreme and ends up sleeping all day instead of having fun with their friends. Here’s five small tips to make sure you’re having a safe and lucky Saint Patrick’s Day!
Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate
You’re most likely going to wake up, turn on the radio and play “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” by Dropkick Murphys and then head your way to the fridge for a beer, or maybe make mimosas with your friends if you’re feeling fancy! Nevertheless, it’s a whole day filled of fun. Make sure you’re drinking water and eating some potatoes, too!
Irish Car Bomb beware
Is this your first Saint Patrick’s Day being 21? You’re in for a treat! All these new drinks will suddenly appear, for example, the “Irish Car Bomb.” Sounds fun, but if you’re not into liquor, you might want to say “I’ll have the green beer” instead! There’s plenty of options to try on this holiday, but know your limits!
Wearing “Kiss me I’m Irish” on you is not consent
Not that this specific to any day of the year, consent is always an important thing to remember! We all know drinking can make us feel a little bolder, so get your flirt on- especially with that guy that’s totally cute. Remember that no matter the number of drinks, the clothes you wear, or your history, consent is always required.
Plan Ahead
Are you headed to Pittsburgh for one of the largest Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations in the nation? Even if you aren’t, it’s good to plan out what you’re doing before the actual celebration begins. Of course having the element of surprise is fun, but know where you want to go when you want to go so you won’t miss out on all the different activites!
Wear Green
I usually try to be festive, but I know sometimes the idea of being too festive and “looking weird” can pop into your head. From my experience with Saint Patrick’s Day, this is a holiday where the dress is totally extra and that’s one of the reasons it’s so fun!
