An Open Letter to My Teammates

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

Four years have gone by faster than I could ever imagine. Each year we have grown together & every memory holds a special place in my heart. The seasons have come & gone, but we have always remained best friends. Each year we were eager to meet our new teammates & sad to let some go. Now it’s my time to leave & I can’t fathom life without you all.

We all know cheerleading isn’t easy. But we were the ones who still tried out in college because we loved the sport. Our bodies don’t flip like they once had, or throw as much as they once had. We stayed through the long practices that left us with bruises. We stayed for the practices where we accomplished a new skill. We stayed for our stunt group. We stayed for the stories exchanged over stretching. We stayed for the innumerable laughs. We stayed for the team bonding. We stayed for our teammates-our best friends.

To my freshman year team: You taught me that there is more to cheerleading than practice, games, & competition. Team bonding is what really counts.

To my sophomore year team: You taught me that you can be drowning in schoolwork, but practice will always be a place to get away from your responsibilities & be with your friends.

To my junior year team: You taught me that your best cheer friends may graduate, but they will always be there to cheer you on.

To my senior year team: You taught me that any obstacle can be overcome. We can accomplish any stunt we set our minds to & that we always have our teammates to support us.

Thank you all for being my rock. We have been through it all together. My college experiences would be drastically different if I didn’t decide to try out my freshman year. Each team, each teammate will always be special to me. I’m forever grateful for the past four years & each of you. So cheers to you & cheers to me the best of friends we’ll always be!

Love always,
