After last week’s episode, we knew that season 10 was going to be filled with drama, mostly between Aquaria and Miz Cracker, but after this episode, we can expect more and more drama to be stirred up by The Vixen. From the early looks of The Vixen, we can tell that she’s going to be the one to stir up all the drama this season, possibly making herself to be the Phi Phi O’Hara of this season, which isn’t always a good thing if you’re trying to make it to the top, but that’s none of my business. So that being said, let’s get into all the tea of this week’s episode.
After all the drama between Aquaria, Miz Cracker, and The Vixen was all sorted out, RuPaul came out to announce this week’s, possibly, Trixie Mattel-inspired mini challenge where the queens had to get into quick drag and dance in a hoedown. Each queen gave their best hoedown looks and moves, even losing their wigs like Mayhem Miller in the process, but the two winners to come out of this challenge were Asia O’Hara and The Vixen. Asia and The Vixen were announced to be the two team captains of the main challenge.
In this week’s main stage challenge, the queens were performing in a musical called, “PharmaRusical”. As mini challenge winners, The Vixen and Asia were appointed as team captains and pick their own team members. Asia’s team included: Aquaria, Monique, Dusty Ray Bottoms, Yuhua Hamasaki, Kalorie Karbdashian Williams and Eureka O’Hara.The Vixen’s team included: Kameron Michaels, Miz Cracker, Monet X Change, Blair St. Clair and Mayhem Miller. Asia’s team all seemed to get along, but the power imbalance between Asia and Eureka caused tension within the group, which helped with their choreography, but backfired with their onstage chemistry. On Vixen’s team, The Vixen seemed to cause all of the problems with her team because of her selfishness, and by not listening to any of the queens and assigning the roles rather than letting each queen choose their own parts.
As each team walked into rehearsal, they were pleasantly surprised with guest choreographer and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, Alyssa Edwards. When the Vixen’s team met with Alyssa, the team showed their tension and their unpreparedness when they showed up with no choreography and a lack of chemistry with each other. From the looks of their rehearsal, Vixen’s team was a clear contender for the losing team spot once elimination would come around, according to Alyssa Edward’s and viewers at home. On the total opposite end, Asia’s team came in prepared and ready to work, hinting that they would win the challenge with how smoothly their rehearsal went. After Asia’s team was finished, Alyssa held Eureka back to talk about how she wasn’t showing off her full potential because of her PTSD with her injury last season that caused her to leave the show early.
When it came time for the performance, both teams put on iconic performances, but RuPaul shockingly announced that The Vixen’s team won, leaving viewers at home gagged because everyone, including myself, was 100% convinced that they would lose based on their shaky rehearsal. The Vixen was also crowned the winner of this challenge, making her the first queen of this season to win both the mini challenge and the main challenge. After RuPaul announced that the rest of the team was safe, the critiques of Asia’s team began, and the judges didn’t hold back.
Most of the critiques weren’t based on the choreography, but at the fact that their onstage chemistry was lacking, and that Asia’s team was forgettable during the performance. After the critiques were over, RuPaul announced that Asia, Aquaria, Dusty, Yuhua and Monique were safe which left Kalorie and Eureka in the bottom. The two lip-synced to “Best of My Love” by The Emotions, which highlighted Eureka and Kalorie’s passion to stay in the competition, but sadly, Kalorie was eliminated, giving Eureka a second chance to prove herself again this season. Kalorie’s leaving statement on the show was “Remember, Kalories are friends…and food”, which was a lot less cryptic sounding than last week’s eliminated queen, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo’s echoes.
