Recently, I wrote an article titled, Top 10 Movie Releases to Look Forward to This Year. If you haven’t read it, feel free to check it out and see what movies there are to look forward to this year. In my article, I mentioned a movie titled, Love Simon, which was released in theaters on March 16th, and luckily…I was able to see it!

Here is a SPOILER FREE review of Love, Simon.

This film is probably going on my list of favorites. Yes, that’s how good it was, and how much I enjoyed it! I felt the cast portrayed teenagers going through lives struggles very well, even though they may not have been the same age as the characters there were playing. The movie had a soundtrack that made you vibe, and I’ll admit, I was jamming in the theater at times.

Although I may not know from experience, the movie depicted coming out as a difficult experience, and not just the conversation with yourself, but with those closest to you, and those around you. One particular scene between Simon and his father showed how difficult and emotional this topic can be, and from what I saw, it’s not an easy pill to swallow. However, what I also saw was that those closest to Simon accepted him for who he is because, at the end of the day, he was still Simon. Being gay is simply apart of who he is.

Although the main topic of the movie was about Simon’s struggle to come out, there are other topics such as divorce, relationships & friendships, love, and insecurities within oneself, that were also discussed. The various topics discussed made the movie relatable to viewers because there was a character for everyone. For example, I could relate to Leah, Simon’s best friend, played by Katherine Langford.

This movie reminded me of being on a rollercoaster because there were times where I was happy, sad, and angry. Many times throughout the movie, I wanted to give Simon a hug, but there were also many times where I was laughing, especially during a particular college scene for Simon.

My final thoughts on this movie are that I really enjoyed it, and it will totally hit you in the feels. This is definitely a movie I would recommend seeing; I’m probably going to see it again. I would also recommend reading the book that the movie is based on, titled, Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda.

Be sure to stay tuned for my next trip to the movies as I review A Quiet Place.
