Last April, Starbucks launched the Unicorn Frappuccino, and the internet freaked out. The bright pink drinks became social media sensations despite only being available for four days in spring. Starbucks, hoping to piggy-back off the massive success of the Unicorn Frap, launched a new creation last week: The Crystal Ball Frappuccino. Naturally, I had to try it.
Listen, I am an avid Starbucks drinker. I can’t get through my morning classes without my fix. It has become engrained in my morning routine and I rarely stray from my usual order (a grande iced green-tea with minimal sweetener). I love Starbucks like it’s a part of my family, and part of being in a family means supporting other members. So, to show my unwavering support for my coffee fam, I walked to my nearest Starbucks on a Friday afternoon and confidently ordered a tall Crystal Ball Frappuccino.

I didn’t try the Unicorn Frappuccino, so I really had no idea what to expect from this new creation. I made a point of not looking up the flavor of the drink so my first reaction would be genuine. Starbucks advertised the drink as a mystical, sparkling Frappuccino with the power to tell your fortune. It is green and blue topped with dazzling green sparkles. Upon seeing the drink, I thought: “Oh, green! It must be lime flavored.” But upon my first sip of the green drink my thoughts changed. “…mint? Or is it…peach? Maybe…grape?” I really couldn’t put my finger on what the flavor was supposed to be. After a quick Google-search, I confirmed that the flavor was indeed peach, and I was somewhat disappointed. The mystical green and blue drink is just peach flavored? Why not just make a Peach Frappuccino? That’s a nice spring-time drink by itself! And why green? Who wants a green peach? The frap left me with more questions than answers.
Since the Unicorn Frappuccino created such a social media stir, I took to Twitter to see the reactions to the Crystal Ball Frappuccino. I found that some people were just as disappointed as I was.

Even though the drink really didn’t do it for me, lots of people may love the peach-infused creation, you’ll just have to decide for yourself! The best part of the whole experience? Getting to take photos of the drink for Instagram.
