Underrated Bands to See at Coachella Weekend Two

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

Coachella weekend one was a blur. Every celebrity turned up for this amazing event headlined by The Weeknd, Eminem and Beyonce. We all know our favorite artists like Post Malone, Cardi B and, of course, Queen B shined through at this festival, but there are so many underrated musicians.

Here is your Weekend Two guide for who to see, or if you’re like me, who to watch on the YouTube live stream.

Some of you may already be a die-hard fan of Alison Wonderland, but to others, she is still an unknown force. I saw her at Coachella a few years ago and was truly mind-blown at her talent.  She is a female DJ who produces all of her own music. She recently dropped her new album “Awake” right before Coachella, so you can be sure she will have some new tunes.

Fortune is new to his solo career as an artist. He had his debut on Chance the Rapper’s hit song “All Night” in 2017, and a year later, is now playing at Coachella. His style is old-school rap and alternative, and definitely different than the mainstream artists you will find performing on the main stage.

Sir Sly:

Sir Sly is a classic alternative musician, with an edgy twist. His vocals always sound slightly muffled – he likes playing with distortion and the combination of electronic and acoustic instruments. I love his songs “High” and “And Run,” which is a collaboration with K. Flay, so keep your eyes peeled for a special guest.

Cherry Glazerr:

This is a little bit of self-promotion, but Cherry Glazerr is a funky, young alternative band that started at my high school. Instead of taking the predictable route of college, they decided to join together and rock the free world. Now they are playing at Coachella, so they definitely have accomplished something. This band is super quirky, featuring songs like “grilled cheese” and “Nurse Ratched”, which is about a character from the book “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (side note: this is a nod to my high school lit class).

Nothing but Thieves:

I love this band because all of their songs tell stories about their experiences. There is so much emotion in every tune, and the listener can truly feel this. Their song “Sorry” has a beautiful melody and a dynamic beat that builds with each chorus. They are definitely a band worth checking out.

Magic Giant:

This is a fun, alternative-pop band. Their music is upbeat and definitely fits the Coachella sunshine vibes. They feature instruments like the ukulele and banjo that fit perfectly with the cheerful lyrics. Throw on your flower crown and enjoy dancing around to this band.
