Three months ago, Hayley Kiyoko released the new music video for her song, “Curious.” Many fans of Hayley, were thrilled to see her new music video and the video hit an all-time high of 9 million views in less than three months, making this gay anthem one of the most popular of Hayley Kiyoko’s biggest hits.

If anyone doesn’t know who she is, welp, you need to listen to her music. Not only is she a huge advocate of the LGBTQA community, but she is also known in the community as “The Lesbian Jesus”, even though Hayley herself is bisexual but leans more towards girls as many videos show. She has only had one video with a guy while the rest were with many attractive ladies. She’s not afraid to be herself and express that through her music, her music videos and her killer dance moves, Hayley sheds light on the community and makes the topic of being LGBTQA seem less taboo, giving us a strong look onto the culture of being of her music part of this proud community or even just supporting it.

In 2018, Hayley Kiyoko surprised us with her release of Expectations, a truly deep and meaningful album with such an amazing beginning, middle and end. As per Hayley’s request on Instagram, I listened to the whole album straight through.

The beginning started with a calming song with no vocals, leaving many to think, “where is this album going”? The end of the first song, “Expectations”, lead to “Feelings”, which I thought was the coolest thing. All the songs on the album were extremely catchy, especially the songs “What I Need”, “Curious” and “I Wanna be Missed”. All the songs seem to be connected with each other, each of them leading into the next beautiful song, which made me to believe that the whole album was connected in some way. Kiyoko even said it herself to take what you want from the album.

After listening to the album fully, I felt tears coming from my eyes. All these memories had come back to me and I felt myself crying in the car, on the way home from college for a weekend. Her music spoke to me in more ways than I had ever thought possible. I had thought of everything; my first crush on a girl, the time I feel in love with my straight best friend. The album itself, to me described what it was like to fall for a girl. All the songs connected to each other. Which made me assume that she was describing all the stages and ways that you feel in love with your straight best friend or any girl for that matter. And the last song let it be was describing how you finally let it go and the girl you thought you loved, dates a guy or just leaves. And it’s the most terrible and heartbreaking thing in the world but you let it go. That is only my interpretation. Not everyone will think the same as me. But overall, this album is very deep and very catchy. I would recommend this album to anyone who wants some new music to listen to.

Just a free spirit that loves to write and express myself through my writing and my poetry. I enjoy longboarding, video games and listening to music. In my free time, I write and create playlists. I also enjoy meditation and exploring nature. As Buddha once said: "Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment."
