10 Staple Spring Fashion Items You’ll Want in Your Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Augustana chapter.

The Mid-West is known for its deceptive seasons, but it seems that Spring is finally here. Spring is a bit of a hit-or-miss kind of time—it’s too warm for all of your winter clothes, but not quite warm enough for all of your favorite summer fashion staples. Here are ten pieces you can rock for this transition season!

  1. Cropped Sweaters or Sweatshirts

Crop top season is just around the corner, but while you wait for it, try out a cropped sweater. They’re usually thin enough that you won’t be burning, but not so thin that they serve no purpose as a sweater. They pair great with jeans, shorts, skirts, or even sweatpants!

    2. Slouchy Cardigans

Slouchy cardigans will never let you down. They go with just about every article of clothing, even on your lazy days! Cardigans are a great staple for Spring, and they are available at nearly every store you go to.

     3. Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses are great for more formal events. They are super comfy and incredibly flattering. Maxi dresses don’t always have to be form-fitting, and the more flowy and floral your maxi dress, the more ready you are for spring!

      4. Corduroy Skirts

Corduroy skirts, specifically corduroy mini-skirts, are a super easy way to make up a cute outfit. Spring mornings can be chilly, but with a corduroy skirt, some tights, a cute top, and that trusty slouchy cardigan, you’ve got a really cute outfit for a cool spring day!

     5. Ankle Boots

Ankle boots should be an all-year closet essential, but they come in handy in spring if you’re looking for a staple shoe that goes with casual or dressy outfits. They look great with skinny jeans, skirts, and even shorter dresses!

     6. Floral Embroidered Jeans

Florals are going to be everywhere this season, and you might as well join the crowd and get a pair of floral embroidered jeans! The embroidered flowers are so cute and look so pretty against the denim. They’ll take center stage for your outfit, and will look good with just a plain white t-shirt or a bright colored sweater!

      7. Gaucho Pants

Gaucho pants take me back to fourth grade, but they’re much cooler now than they were back then. The wide-legged pant has an airy quality, perfect for nice, warm Spring days. Gaucho pants can be dressed up or dressed down, depending on what top and shoes you pair them with!

     8. T-shirt Dresses

T-shirt dresses are the easiest outfit in the world. They’re great for days when you don’t feel like putting together a whole outfit but still want to look cute. They don’t require much except for a pair of shoes, and again, that trusty cardigan.

      9. Pastel Keds

Keds are a really comfy pair of shoes great for this time of year. Your toes stay warm from the breeze, but they’re still breathable. Like the ankle boots, Keds are a great staple shoe that go with just about every outfit. Pastel Keds would be great for the spring because the colors would suit the season and any loud, floral piece you decide to rock.

    10. Jean Jackets

You can never go wrong with jean jackets. They are a staple in your closet, and they come in handy in the spring. Pair them with your gaucho pants and t-shirt, or your t-shirt dresses, or even a maxi dress, if you want to tone it down. Jean jackets are the chameleons of fashion, and they are definitely a must for spring!

Spring can be a little confusing in the Mid-West, but that shouldn’t stop us from putting together cute outfits! With the addition of these Spring staples, you can make your campus quad your own runway!
