Body Positive Swimwear Brands

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

As the weather warms up, swimsuits are at the front of nearly every store and on the front page of every clothing website. However, I find myself extremely frustrated when I see basically the exact same model on every website with unrealistic body proportions. Swimsuit shopping is such a stressful event for many women, as we are held to the expectations of these very swimsuit models. Insecurities are at an all time high for many women while shopping for or wearing a swimsuit in public, and changing the way we look at swimsuit starts with how we look at selling them. The more models I see that look nothing like myself or any women I know, the worse I feel about myself. I love to shop clothing brands that use models closer to what real women look like, and who I can relate to. So, I researched clothing brands that represent what women really look like and who make swimsuits for all body types.

Aerie

Aerie has made a commitment as a brand to not retouch any of their models and promote body positivity. The Aerie brand focused on real women that girls can look up to as role models, creating the hashtag #AerieREAL. Women including Rachel Platten and Aly Raisman are part of the campaign to promote young women loving their bodies. They carry affordable swimwear and lingerie for many different body types, from smaller sizes to sizes for curvier and plus size women.

Adore Me

Adore Me sells both lingerie and swimwear for all shapes and sizes. Their sizing ranges from XS to 4X and focus on providing high quality products that can make women confident and ready for anything. At super affordable prices, they have many different styles and patterns of adorable swimsuits!

Swimsuits for All

With a name like this, it’s no surprise that this brand has swimsuits for all different body types. Their models feature beautiful women of all sizes and the brand focuses on empowering women. Their mission states their 4 values of style, value, quality, and fit, and they claim to have swimsuits for every body on a budget!

Torrid

Torrid is a brand that focuses specifically on plus sized fashion. They carry sizes 10-30 of high quality and stylish swimwear. While their prices are a little higher, they are committed to producing the best quality products in order to make all women feel beautiful in their own skin. They also claim to make the “best fitting swimsuit on the planet” and their suits are made with support for larger chests and flattering silhouettes for larger body types. Go see for yourself!

ASOS

Asos is another brand that carries clothing for women of all sizes, featuring a curves and plus size section. Their prices vary but there are many affordable options for different budgets. I love how confident and beautiful their models are, looking empowered in their own skin. Their suits are also seriously stylish with many options to choose from!

These are just a few of the many clothing brands that are working to make their swimwear inclusive for all sizes. No matter what size or shape you are, you deserve to feel confident and beautiful in a swimsuit. Remember that we are all stunning in our own ways, and don’t let unrealistic beauty standards get you down this summer!
