This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

You’re probably wondering what this article is about. I know, the title can be a little confusing without any background information, so let me explain.

My name is Hope. Hence the pun, “Hope(ing) you can relate.”

I wanted to create a continuous strand of stories to express a variety of things I don’t understand. This is me virtually venting about everything and anything I don’t get, in hopes that you can relate to how I feel and laugh a little along the way.

So, with that said, my first frustration of this series: people who don’t tip their servers. I don’t understand why or how people can justify not tipping. I may be a little biased because I am a server, but come on! Servers are paid below minimum wage, and their main source of income is from the tips they receive from guests. So, basically, whenever someone decides not to tip it really hurts servers financially. Every time a table decides to write a zero on the tipping line, my dogs go without dinner for a few nights (JUST KIDDING).

So, long story short, please take care of your servers! They are hardworking individuals who have bills to pay just like you.

Pro tip: If you cannot afford tipping your server, but still want bomb food from a restaurant you should order take out! Although tipping is still encouraged, it’s not always a necessity. For example, most individuals tip their takeout specialist ten percent of their total bill, opposed to the twenty percent they would be spending on their server if they were dining in.

Well, I hope you related to my frustrations this week, stay tuned for more vent sessions with me.

XO, Hope

PS. The Kim K. picture I attached is a good representation of my face when tables don’t tip me. You’re welcome.
