Herbivore Botanicals: The Pink and Blue Products Sweeter than Cotton Candy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

I have always had a sweet tooth. Chocolate, ice cream, and of course, cotton candy. With time, I started wanting candy less and wanting skincare more. So what substituted my cloudy candy? Herbivore’s True Blue Kit and Pink Cloud Moisturizer.

The True Blue Set, retailed at $29 (available on Sephora and HB’s website), contains deluxe sizes of the brand’s mask and oil. The Blue Tansy mask is made primarily of four key ingredients: White Willow Bark Extract, Fruit Enzymes, Blue Tansy Oil, and Aloe Leaf.

White Willow Bark Extract works to unclog pores via a natural BHA and high levels of salicylic acid, an acid known to fight breakouts. Both ingredients are fine for sensitive skin. If you have really sensitive skin, leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes rather than 20. Fruit Enzymes are a form of natural AHA which work to eliminate dead skin cells, bringing you smooth and soft skin. The star of the show, Blue Tansy Oil, works to soothe redness and calm irritated skin. Blue Tansy Oil provides soothing aromatherapy, and the color is all natural. No dyes to harm both your skin and the earth. Aloe Leaf unclogs pores, smooths the skin, and removes blackheads. With a blend of all of these ingredients, this mask works wonders.

The mask is a semi-runny consistency, with a natural blue color. A little tingling is normal. Tingle, though, not burn!

The second part of this duo is the Lapis Oil Balancing Facial Oil. This oil contains ingredients such as Blue Tansy, Plant-based Squalane, Kukui Nut Oil, and Jojoba Oil.

Since we have already discussed Blue Tansy, let’s discuss the other key three.

Plant-based Squalane acts as a natural barrier to keep moisture in the skin while providing brightening and anti-aging benefits. Kukui Nut Oil contains vitamins A, C, and E, which all help brighten, moisturize and strengthen your skin. Jojoba Oil packs double the punch: it helps treat both acne as well as dryness. The oil is so lightweight, so it will not clog pores, and it can still treat acne while hydrating your skin as well.

Now for the pink swirls.

Pink Cloud Moisturizer is beautiful in appearance as well as in ingredients. The main ingredients in this product include Rose Water, White Tea and Rice Extracts, Sodium Hyaluronate, and our old friend Kukui Oil.

Rose water is high in antioxidants, giving your skin a supple glow while also reducing redness. White tea and rice extracts hold wonderful anti-aging benefits, helping pigmentation and fine lines. Sodium hyaluronate is the salt form of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid can carry 1000x its weight in water, making it optimal for hydration. And yep, we covered Kukui Oil!

I hope breaking down why the products are so great helps you understand a little more about why I love them, and why I hope you will too!

Herbivore has a very natural approach but keeps the luxury vibe. They are cruelty-free, as well as paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free.

So what will it be? Cotton candy or the dreamier version of the colored swirls? You know my pick!
