We are all so busy with our own lives and the things that we have to do that sometimes we forget to just stop and help others out. Even when you’re in a rush, you can stop for a moment and do something nice for someone, help them out, give them a compliment, etc. We need to be spreading kindness like wildfire wherever we are and whenever we can. Be the person that you would want to run into on a bad day.

Everyone has something you can compliment, so if you see someone who looks like they’re having a rough day, try to cheer them up with a compliment. This can be as simple as telling someone that you like the style of their hair. Tell them if their shirt is cute or their shoes are to die for. Some people have gorgeous smiles. Some people have a great sense of fashion. Some are unbelievably smart. The point is: it doesn’t matter what it is, if you notice something about someone, tell them, because it could make their day. It’s a Monday. You overslept for your class. You did bad on a pop quiz. Whatever. We’ve all been there, and a friendly smile and some kind words can go a long way. We all love receiving compliments. Let’s make it habit to give them to others as well.

Small acts of kindness are also great ways to spread some happiness. Hold the door open for people when you aren’t in a rush. Offer to return someone’s shopping cart when you’re in the Walmart parking lot. Help freshmen who look lost and confused; they’re probably as nervous and overwhelmed as you were when you first got to college. When you’re in line for food, pay for the person behind you. If someone drops something, pick it up for them. Take a parking spot farther from the door, so someone else can get a closer spot. If someone in your group doesn’t understand the material, take a moment to explain it to them.

Being nice to others is something we can do everyday. It takes little to no effort, and it could bring them a lot of joy. If we all did this, it could revolutionize society. When you’re kind to someone, they carry that kindness with them throughout the day. They’ll share it with others, who will then share it with others. It’s a chain reaction that just keeps on going. Be the change. Start a movement of kindness. Spread happiness and positivity.

Romans 5:8  I attend the University of Tennessee at Martin as a Psychology major. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends, reading books, and taking naps.
I am a pre-vet major who loves to laugh (especially at myself), drink coffee, and spend time with my dog, Cora. I moved from Massachusetts to Tennessee to attend college at UTM and compete for their division 1 rifle team.
