5 Reasons You Need to See “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UTM chapter.

Unless you live under a rock, you’ve heard about the new Netflix original movie that has all girls aged 12-21 flocking to their laptops and googling shirtless pictures of Noah Centineo. Everyone is going crazy over the movie that is the perfect mixture of cheesy romance, handsome male leads, diversity and surprisingly accurate representations of teenage love in the 21st century. However, if you somehow haven’t seen the newest Netflix rom-com, I’m here to tell you the top 5 reasons to emerge from the rock you reside under, curl up with a bowl of popcorn and check out To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

Reason #1: The main character isn’t a blond haired, blue eyed beauty queen.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before doesn’t have a white female lead. I know, crazy. Instead it has Lara Jean Covey, a 16 year old half-Korean, half-Caucasian teenage girl played by Lana Condor, and she is amazing.

Reason #2: Two words: Peter Kavinsky.

Speaking of lead characters, if you needed any reason to watch this movie it’s Peter Kavinsky. Played by Noah Centineo, Peter is the ideal boyfriend, even if he is a fake one. He’s handsome, athletic, charming, caring and writes Lara Jean love notes constantly. Honestly, what more could anyone want? If that wasn’t convincing enough google a pic of Noah Centineo. See what I mean?

Reason #3: Lara Jean’s little sister is bad AF.

Seriously, I want to grow up to be Kitty Covey. She’s the best sister anyone could ask for. Even though her methods may not be completely kosher, Kitty will do anything for her older sisters. She’s smart, funny, has a great sense of style and isn’t afraid to think and live outside the box. Also, she wears a “feminist” necklace throughout the movie. Goals.

Reason #4: The movie is based off of a book.

I’m not saying all the best movies are based off of books… but I’m not saying they’re not. The best movies are based off of book series, and guess what series has two more books to go? That’s right, there will be two more movies coming to a laptop near you, hopefully, very soon.

Reason #5: It will make you smile.

Much like the many rom-coms that came before it, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before can’t help but make you smile, and sometimes that’s all you need.

I am a pre-vet major who loves to laugh (especially at myself), drink coffee, and spend time with my dog, Cora. I moved from Massachusetts to Tennessee to attend college at UTM and compete for their division 1 rifle team.
