The Do’s and Don’ts for First Week of College Freshman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stonehill chapter.

Being a freshman at a new college can be exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. After making it through the first couple of weeks at college I have compiled a list of do’s and don’ts. Please keep in mind that this is based off my personal experience and yours may be different.

Do’s

DO keep your dorm room door propped open. This is a good way to make new friends and meet the other people living in your hall.

DO make a friend in every class and get their phone number. This will be helpful when you miss a class and need the notes or have a question about the homework.

DO attend the club fair. This is a great way to get involved on campus and decide which clubs are right for you.

DO read through your syllabi’s. They contain important information; homework, professor’s office hours, and test dates.

DO call your parents. They may be annoying, but they care about you and want to know how you are doing.

DO ask for help. If you are struggling academically or just, in general, there are plenty of resources on campus that want to help.

Don’ts

DON’T worry about making a million friends. This takes time and its always better to have a few close best friends that you can always rely on.

DON’T stay in your dorm room. It’s important to get out, even if it is just going to the library. I promise it will be a nice change of scenery.

DON’T ask your professor to go to the bathroom. You are an adult now, you can get up and go when you please.

DON’T skip class. Especially at a smaller school, the professor will take notice.

DON’T procrastinate. You probably have more free time than you did in high school, but this is no excuse. Get your work done on time!

DON’T feel intimidated by upperclassmen. They are students too, yes, they may have more experience, but the majority are always willing to help.
