The NYFW Street Style Experience

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Albany chapter.

The Annual Essence Street Style event took place during New York Fashion Week of course, on September 9th, 2018 at the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn. On such a rainy day, walking into a world of black owned businesses made up for the disappointing weather.

The event was held from 12 PM to 7 PM with appearances by some of the hottest in the industry. With a host like Ananda Seales and performances by Teyana Taylor and Yemi Alade, the event was sure to succeed. Not to mention, icons like Kelis, Kellie Brown, and Naomi Campbell would be honored. To be completely honest the food truck lines were lengthy, but patience is a virtue and waiting sure as hell paid off because the meal I received from Jamrock Jerk was bomb and filling to say the least. I’ll say the shopping experience and photo opps in-between counted the most at an event like this.

Essence surely had enough to offer with vendors like Cece’s Closet, MIDGETGiraffe, Nishkami, Jam + Rico, The Humped Zebra, The Candy Shop, and so many more. Let’s not forget Shea Moisture’s set up that was located outside by the main stage! All in all, was a beautiful location (maybe not on the best of days) which overlooked the Williamsburg Bridge. In a nutshell it was quite the unique experience which granted first timers like myself an opportunity to be apart of fashion, flicks, and fun.
