Study Playlist for Stressed Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

When it comes to school, completing your required course work can be stressful enough without having to deal with choosing your playlist, right? Well, luckily for you, I have put together some of my favourite artists to listen to depending on what study mode I’m in.

To begin, let’s get all of the boring stuff out of the way…

When I like to really focus and read through my textbooks or any of my lectures that require my 100% full attention, I like to listen to a slower song with a very relaxing vibe. Some of the more relaxing choices that I listen to are:

•   City & Colour

•   Sabrina Claudio

•   Bryson Tiller

•   Roy Woods

•   The Neighbourhood

•   Mumford & Sons

•   Sam Smith

•   John Legend

•   DVSN

•   A Boogie

•   Jhene Aiko

•   The Weeknd

An artist that you can lay down and relax to, is something that I find to be great for focusing. If you are unable to focus when it comes to lyrical music at times where it really comes down to the crunch, I would suggest going on YouTube and searching meditative and instrumental songs that can bring your heart rate and stress levels down! For those of you who like country, listen to these artists:

•   Dan + Shay

•   Tim McGraw

•   Brett Eldredge

•   Chase Rice

If you are feeling a little fun and want a good beat but still intend on working, my go-to is always an early 2000s throwback playlist of R’n’B hits. Some artists to look for are:

•   Rihanna

  • “Rehab”
  • “Umbrella”
  • “I Hate That I Love You”

•   Nelly

  • “Dilemma”

•   Mario

  • “Let Me Love You”
  • “Just a Friend”

•   Usher

  • “Confessions”
  • “Burn”

•   Ne-Yo

  • “So Sick”
  • “Miss Independent”
  • “Because of You”

Using these examples, I would suggest going onto your choice of music app and searching early 2000s R’n’B playlists. If you can bop your head and type your essay, you will get lost in your work without realizing how far you have come!

If the previous recommendations are not your style, I would suggest listening to some alternative and rock bands such as:

•   Audioslave (slower songs such as “I Am the Highway”)

•   Foo Fighters

•   Temple of the Dog (the whole album is a nice listen and cool background noise)

•   Red Hot Chili Peppers

And finally, when you are completely fed up with school and decide that dropping out and becoming a stripper is the better option for you:

•   Rihanna

  • “Pour It Up”

•   Alice Cooper

  • “School’s Out”
