What’s Hot This Upcoming Season According to High Fashion Designers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

The air is getting crisper, the leaves are starting to fall and the temperature is starting to drop. You know what that means…fall is finally here! Say sayonara to your daisy dukes and hello to the chunky knit sweaters. If you’re looking to amp up your fall wardrobe then here’s what’s trending this fall season according to high fashion designers!

1. Plaid print

Plaid print has appeared on the runway for so many Fall 2018 collections and is the number one fall trend this season! From trousers, bags, coats, and blazers, this print can instantly transform your wardrobe to preppy and chic! The most popular item that the plaid print has made an appearance on is the blazer.

Blazers are another trending piece that has been debuted on runways by high fashion brands like Saint Laurent, Fendi, and Balenciaga.  Oversized plaid blazers are the new statement piece that every fashion “it” girl has been wearing. If you want to go that extra mile, wear your plaid blazer as a set with a matching plaid skirt or trousers (another fall fashion trend)! You’ll look so put together and business chic.

Tip: Belting your blazer is another popular way to style them. It accentuates your figure and adds some flare to your outfit!

2. Leopard Print

Every time I log onto Instagram, about every fashion blogger is seen wearing leopard print! I’ve never been a fan of animal print in the past but seeing all the different ways this print has been styled, I’m starting to fall in love with this new trend.

Designer Stacey Bendet of Alice and Olivia is a huge enthusiast for leopard print. Check out A+O’s Fall 2018 collection and you’ll see what I mean. This season, wear leopard print flats or ankle boots! If you’re feeling brave, you can even rock your animal print on a jacket or skirt. Not feeling too much of the print? Go for a subtle touch and maybe choose a leopard belt or handbag.

3. Flowy Skirts and Dresses

Long flowy dresses aren’t just hot in the summer! High fashion designers have claimed that long skirts and dresses are the new trend this fall season. They were seen on the runway paired with oversized sweaters and trench coats for the colder months.

Pair a long skirt with some knee boots, a turtleneck and a blazer for a sophisticated look or a cable knit sweater and sneakers for a chilled out and casual vibe. It’s the perfect fall essential that will still keep you warm even if you don’t want to say goodbye to one of  your summer essentials! Remember: Layering is key! You don’t necessarily have to stow away your summer wardrobe after the season has ended; find ways to incorporate them into your fall closet!

4. Cowboy Boots

Boots are always a fall trend, but this season, high fashion is taking it to another level! Say howdy to the “western boot” (with a twist). Yes, cowboy boots are now trendy in the fashion world. Who would’ve known? I’ve seen the cowboy boot worn with contemporary midi/mini skirts and ankle length trousers.

They come in both ankle and shin length and vary in colors like black, mustard yellow, cherry red and white. Printed cowboy boots like faux snakeskin and alligator are also big this season. If you want to keep it chic, pair your boots with a skirt and cropped jacket or keep it edgy with some flared jeans and a leather jacket. Take a look at Tibi’s boot collection and you’ll see all the different variations made to the cowboy boot! Yee-haw, y’all.

5. Oversized Coats

Trench coats, puffer coats, and parkas are fall/winter must haves no matter what. This fall season they’re coming back bigger (literally) and better. Oversized coats have been trending on the runway and in many different clothing shops. They come in a plethora amount of colors, fabrics and prints, you just have to find the one that best fits your style!

The best way to style an oversized coat is by layering. It allows you more room to layer underneath it, keeping you extra warm and cozy. Wear an oversized faux fur coat with jeans and booties or an oversized trench coat with some trousers and a button down! Accessorize with an oversized handbag (do you see the common thread here?) and a blanket scarf, it’ll feel like you never left your bed that morning. I’m all in
