Getting more and more popular, power nap, or a short sleep can be seen taking place in companies, schools and even churches. Recently, Helsinki citizens have got a chance to come by paid classes organized in Sofia Future Farm, where they could hide from the busiest time of a working day and classes at uni, relax, and steady their nerves. Supervised by the instructors, participants can fall asleep for a moment and after some time can be gently brought back to the rest of the day. So, how do we benefit from power naps?
Increased concentration
According to the experiment done on incorporating a 15-minute nap into a primary school schedule, students were more relaxed and their ability to remain calm was improving. Also, as teachers stated, students have learned to listen to their bodies and be aware of body sensations coming after the naps.
Better learning
The same research has indicated that not only was focusing improved but also learning. Therefore, quick naps can help students better store recently learned material in memory as well as transfer it into the long-term one.
Invigorating effect
The brain researcher, Minna Huotilainen, says that the brain gets energized after the nap. The state can last for about three hours, so if you are working, getting ready for exams or need some fresh ideas for your thesis, take a nap before jumping into any work.
